“FFA: Future Farmers of America, right? Wrong.”

It was the intro to a speech I gave in high school as part of an organization dedicated to agriculture. I wanted people to know that not only did FFA change the meaning of its name, but that it was no longer only for farmers. I grew up in a largely agricultural town, but not on a farm. That being said, most of my friends in high school did. We spent the weekends driving around in obnoxiously loud trucks blaring country music with our boyfriends who wore cowboy boots and baseball caps. For at least the first couple years of high school we thought the most fun you could have was watching the boys blow things up with their homemade bombs.

Miss these girls so much.
A long time has passed since high school. I rarely listen to country music, loud trucks annoy me, and I’ve realized there is more to life than cowboys and rodeos (though both are still wonderful). And though my current interests have changed, I still reminisce on those days and hold so much respect for farmers, ranchers, and a good looking man in tight jeans (who knew hipsters stole their style from cowboys?).

A couple days ago I was able to re-live my redneck days. We couldn’t bare see the pumpkins rot, so we decided to put them out of their misery.
