Sometimes I feel as if I have won the lottery of life. But before you think my life is perfect, I should tell you that the feeling usually doesn't last too long. I usually get slapped back into reality when I'm up to my elbows in someone else's bodily fluids at work...or something as equally disheartening. However, despite the harsh realities that life brings, I recognize the countless blessings I have, and enjoy reveling in them every now and again.
This winter I have been able to reside in a winter wonderland--in the most literal sense. I never thought after leaving Rexburg for Texas, that I would miss the snow, but I was mistaken. After two snow-less winters, I have a renewed love for snow and ice and everything in between--within limits of course. The reason for my rejoicing this particular winter, however, came in the fact that I got to spend Christmas how it should be spent-drinking hot cocoa, snowshoeing, cutting down my own Christmas tree, and being with family, friends, and the love of my life....all with the thought of sunny skies and sandy shores on the horizon.
For some reason, it's so much easier to enjoy winter when you only have a few more weeks of it rather than 5 more loooong months. And enjoy it I have. Regardless of the fact that I had to work on my birthday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, AND New Years Day. Oh the joys of being the newbie.
Now, I know how sickening it is to hear about how other people's boyfriends are the best...blah, blah, blah, but my boyfriend really is the best. haha. Although he had to work around my consuming holiday schedule, he made the holidays wonderful and almost made me think twice about moving to Kauai in January. He prepared multiple delicious holiday meals, spoiled me with gifts and most importantly, amused my somewhat irrational desire of wanting my own Christmas tree 3 days before Christmas. I wanted to soak in every aspect of the winter and the holiday season before I would say "goodbye" to this aforementioned wonderland and "hello" to sunburns and freckles.
