A few more years went by and we both went our separate ways. We were studying, traveling the world, dating other people, and discovering ourselves. I put no thought into ever dating Max Low after that first semester (though he swears he kept stalking me on facebook through the years).
Our last semester came around and Max had recently gotten out of a serious relationship. I had just gotten out of another not-so-serious relationship. I had the hardest time committing to anyone for more than a couple weeks and was beginning to think I'd never feel content long enough to date someone seriously. We ran into each other again outside the library one cold wintery day in November 2009 and shared a brief but friendly exchange that ended in him getting my number. He said we should hang out sometime but I had little faith it would ever happen, remembering his reputation ;) And it didn't. Not immediately anyway.
A couple weeks after the reunion, he had a dream about me. He didn't tell me this until several months later, but after waking up from the dream he was going to text me until he had the feeling he would see me on campus that day and could talk to me then. It was a crazy thing to think because we never ran into each other on campus, aside from that initial reunion. But for some reason, we did that day. I was up on the 3rd floor of the library, "studying" with some of my guy friends. We were chatting, laughing and having a good time and as Max tells it, he was thrown off his game. He was studying at a computer down the isle but he didn't approach me as was planned. Instead all I got was a brief "hello" as I exited the library.
Finally, a couple weeks after that, he asked me out. He broke a couple rules though. He brought his friend (who apparently couldn't find a date), aaaaand he was late. The place was completely packed and since we didn't have tickets, the ushers told us to "beat it" (in a much more loving way, of course). Max decided to find another way. We ended up with the best seats in the house...after sneaking around a bit. We sat directly behind the curtains on the stage and no one said a word to us, as they had no idea what we were doing back there. That was the day I started to regain my crush on Max.
We went on several dates after that and I kept waiting for that pit in my stomach that meant it was time to end things and move on, but it never came. I loved his passion for adventure, his liberal way of looking at life, his sense of humor, and of course those big blue eyes that sucked me in and made it impossible for me to think of anything else when they locked mine.
A few years have passed and we have been on so many adventures together. I cannot imagine life without him. He excites me, challenges me, inspires me, and loves me more than I thought was possible. Which is why, when he asked me if I would be with him forever, the answer was a simple one.
